About Me

Hi! I’m Doug Bates, lover of principles and enthusiastic Excel developer. I come from a career in Supply Chain Management (SCM) in the consumer goods industry. I am CPIM and CIRM (look up APICS.org if you’re curious).

My most fulfilling work has been the design, development and delivery of global SCM systems, and the mastery, innovation and governance of those systems through training programs and change management. I was a bridge between IT and the end user. The consumer is king, and I developed a keen vision to serve their needs. The vision is to make it nigh impossible not to adopt and fully leverage the most productive tools available, by making them simple, intuitive and enticing. That vision is the seed of xlegant.

I also value my years in both small and large companies, working alongside my esteemed colleagues in the trenches where information flows, where with or without formal systems, Excel is the common currency. Xlegant developed slowly as a concept and began to take shape in 2019, consuming many evenings, weekends and bus commutes, finally concluding in 2021.

There’s nothing like a creative endeavor to inspire and engage your mind. I also enjoy woodworking, piano and genealogy. I live in Ohio with my wife when we're not visiting our two sons in Texas.
